Paris Toulouse

Image
This beautiful trainset is clearly made by GéGé but is not mentioned, not on the box, not on the locomotive and the wagons. So probably it was made for one of the big shops selling it as their own brand.   The loco is the red Bb9200, without de Capitole nameplates. The loco is equipped with fixed pantographs. The coach has an detailed interior. Both auto transporters are painted in red, making a nice composition. The four cars in the set are from norev, very nice but not original. The transformer is missing and there is a circle of track. A really nice set !!

1973 catalogue

This is probably the last catalogue of trains from GéGé. New train sets become available and a new locomotive arrives; the beautiful CC6500. You can download a copy of the catalogue in PDF. Enjoy! 1973 Catalogue Trains

Mistral and Capitole

Image
The green Mistral loco and the Red Capitole loco are two beautiful examples of Gégé locomotives intended for the important railway lines in France. The Mistral ran between Marseille and Paris. The Capitole between Toulouse and Paris. The GéGé loco’s were developed when the real ones were in service. With striking nameplates they capture the atmosphere of the real ones perfectly.

Replacing rubber drive bands

Image
Maintenance of a GéGé locomotive.  Rubber drive bands. The most common problem of a GéGé locomotive is the breakdown of the rubber drive bands. This happens when the rubber is dried out or stretched to much. The new replacement bands from silicone tend to melt. Not often during running sessions but most time after a storage period. But fortunately they are easy to replace. First open your locomotive by taking of the body.  We have to take out the axels, one by one and put a replacement rubber band. Here you have two possibilities, to buy a silicone replacement part on eBay (courroies in French) or to buy rubber bands. The last one is the cheapest and for me the best. The rubber bands have a diameter of 20 mm. I bought 1 kilo of  rubber bands for 12 euros. The silicone bands will cost you 10 euro’s for 6 bands. Clean the axels very precisely because residue left behind will destroy the new ones, then fit the new rubber bands, take care that they are all the same way around on the long

Train sets

Image
Most of the GéGé trains were delivered in complete trains sets with track and controller. A very common set-up was the oval with one siding  The trains are very nice and full of details and colours. The trainsets were inspired by the great trains of France like The Mistral and the Capitole. Mistral Capitole  Etoile du Nord Etendard  Maurienne

Train controllers

Image
There are two train controllers from Gégé that where produced from 1967, the Prim-Elec and the Norm-Elec. Together with these controllers a seperate sub controller was available.  The Prim-Elec is for controlling one train without lights. A simple controller with stepless regulation. Prim-Elec The Norm-Elec is a heavy duty controller, with an output of 3 - 12 volts continue regulated in 6 steps and 14 volts alternative current. The power is about 15 Watts The Norm-Elec heavy duty controller  The sub controller  Norm-Elec and sub controller connected  The sub controller how to connect  The two outputs Inside the Norm-Elec The high quality interior of the Norm-Elec

GéGé freight car with loads

Image
Some wagons from GéGé are extra attractive because they are equipped with a load.  These are, for example, coal or wooden boxes.  Wagon 6420 is a very nice example with three wooden boxes glued to a flat freight car.
