GéGé freight car with loads

Image
Some wagons from GéGé are extra attractive because they are equipped with a load.  These are, for example, coal or wooden boxes.  Wagon 6420 is a very nice example with three wooden boxes glued to a flat freight car.

GéGé Toy or Model Trains ?

Image
The locomotives from GéGé If you look at a GéGé locomotive, coach or wagon, is it a model train or toy train?   A model train and a toy train have two different starting points.  The model train is a scale replica that is as good as possible, in which the correct dimensions and the correct details are very important. A toy train is more an interpretation of a real train, in which the dimensions and the exactness of details are less important then the play value. Are GéGé trains model trains or toy trains?  The trains give a good impression of the real train, are quite good in scale and feature nice details.  The construction is robust, the engine indestructible and after 50 years they still drive excellently.  The purpose of these prestigious trains was mainly to run with them.  Therefore, they were usually sold in complete sets. I my opinion they are course scale modeltrains.  Very well made with a beautiful finish and worth collecting them.

SNCF coaches

Image
Around 1970, GéGé made an interesting series of coaches to put together luxury express trains.  Luxury coaches, restoration and sleeping coaches were available in beautiful colors with a beautiful finish.  Some are based on real coaches, others are not, but they are realistic. CC6500

In 1971 the CC6500 appears at GéGé.  The locomotive is characterized by the beautiful color scheme, the fine pantographs and sturdy shape. It is the version that drove in the mountains, the Maurienne.  The impression of this locomotive is very nice, even though some details differ from the real ones. Trans Europe Express

The Trans Europa Express comes with a new locomotive and coaches. GéGé turns it into a very nice train that is sold in a set. The TEE set  The CC40101 appears in 1965 shortly after the SNCF has the locomotive running in real life.  GéGé turns it into a particularly beautiful model.  The silver color and the red striping are very nice and give the model a beautiful appearance. BB63001

Image
In 1964 GéGé comes with a new locomotive.  The SNCF BB63000, which is actually used for freight trains and shunting.  The locomotive has a number of improvements over the BB9240.  For example, the buffers are now used separately, there are beautiful fences and lights.  The detailing of the bodywork is at a higher level.  The locomotive is well scaled.  There is also a disadvantage, because of the large engine, the cabin is too long, so the sillouet differs from the original model. The driving qualities are excellent again. Ref. 6493 BB63001 Version with yellow striping Details at the short front Details at the long front Lots of details  The yellow stripe version again

Le Capitole

In 1969 GeGe releases the entire Capitole train.  The train set consists of the red BB9240, 1st class coaches, a restoration coach and a luggage coach. The locomotive and coaches are very beautifully finished and in a beautiful deep red color, just like the real Capitole.  the coaches are also provided with an interior.  It is a beautiful train that is a very nice reflection of the real one.
